Once in a while I remember this masterpiece of a game and binge watch it again for the life crisis comments. It's great but this is literally torture to my soul

It was my 7th or 8th essay on TP watched on YT for last weeks, right after finishing the TP2. Just can't get enough of it, ya know. I can say this essay is the most personal one, made on a sweet spot of all the quality lines in a multi-dimensional perception of human beings. It is a kind of a play-through, revealing the most critical points of data about the whole story, but also revealing something deep and humble and naive about the author himself. Things like these, as well as people created them are worth of generations to remember.

Nobody will ever read this and it'll be lost in cyber space, but Mage Ascension Revised still kicks ass.

With the vibe of going back to this peculiar world, I wanted to refresh the ideas of the first game. I stumped upon this video as a consequence. SOMA is the type of game you'd buy on a steam sale and play it just for easy achievements, but once you finished it you’ll get scarred for life, damn, this game is an underrated masterpiece

Wanna know something that sucks about this game if you think about it? The emergence of simon in a basically cybernetic body elimates the need to even use the ARK. Making ambulatory mechanical bodies means "humanity" could survive on the damaged planet surface.

Imagine if the order that the two outcomes came in was 50/50 so either you made it to the ark and then realize you left the other Simon behind or you were left behind and then see what could have been

Nice Essay. Also Simon is kinda an idiot. I dont know why I romanticize digitalization of my conciousness. But I do. Reminds me of the encounter in Stellaris where you find exactly that ARK Thingy of another species and with unlocked tech you also can decide to give them Robot-Bodys again.

simon just really a dumbass

reminds me of the movie the prestige, spoilers* but Robert had a similar machine that would clone himself (body and brain) for a magic trick, except when he flipped the switch the original Robert would be killed offstage by drowning in a box. He was quoted "It took courage... it took courage to climb into that machine every night... not knowing... if I'd be the man in the box... or the prestige."

This game is basically the plot of the Necrons but with a meteor instead of Super Space Cancer.

After I finished this game, I think I cried for like two days whenever I thought about the Simons still stuck at the bottom of the ocean. I like to watch these analysis type videos a couple times a year because I can't bring myself to play the game again. Great work!

I literally replayed this game a couple of days ago. I still sob at the ending, the music, the capsule slowly fading into the unknown stary distance. Breathtaking.

Among the many, many things I adore about this game, I love that it also says how beautiful humanity can be. How much love there is stored to humans. We love the world, we love people, we want it to continue, not because we are selfish, but because there is so much that can exist. Our art, our creativity, our passion. This game is a love letter. The Talos Principle is truly a game like no other. A masterpiece.

Could Simon find his first version? I wouldn’t mind near eternity with another person, even if it’s a clone of me.

It’s an amazing game, my first time playing it I had just left a religion I had been in for 18 years, practically my whole life up until that point. I remember resenting Elohim just for being a religious character. I think the game really helped me in a lot of ways I can’t really phrase

SOMA is that kind of game you play once and it changes your life

The part about the simulation gets me. Like, if we'd ever have a game with AI in it, say something simple as a game where the NPC (with AI) reacts to your actions. I mean, does booting up the game / closing it... have the same gravity as "killing" the person in the simulation? Ultimately, how "lifelike" does AI have to be, before we feel any morality towards it? I just think it's a question that we'll have sooner than later.

The pacing is a bit off, you should let cutscenes and stuff be free from your voice, then talk about it after with gameplay going

The philosophical elements of the game are scarier than any of the actual monsters you encounter.

Regardless of belief, I think when Simon said "Would [God] call me an imposter?", is almost more gut wrenching than the ending.

I think of this game far too often when I have an existential crisis...

Got this same as a free download. Out of all the paid for games at that time that I had purchased, Soma gave me the most entertainment. Very underrated.

the first time i had this kind of existential crisis was when i finished watching pantheon. After processing that and forgeting it, today i finished soma and now I'm just.....horrified.

I hope the Ark is more stable then the simulations they ran on the computer at phatos II or Els it only takes one argument for the whole ark to shut Down 🤯
